Arts Across Aotearoa Gold Awards

Alcyone- Bird woman, was chosen by judge Tom Webster as one of the 4 finalists in the Gold Awards at the Christchurch Art Show.  Very exciting!

Much maligned, bird women appear in myths and folktales in many cultures.

Often seen as portraying evil, contrasting stories however show her in protective roles or associate her with music and love

My take on this is that the macho world feels threatened by mentally powerful women and therefore see her as ugly or evil.

I am unable to participate in the Christchurch Art Show. (Te Pae Convention Centre, 1-3May) however I will be attending both the Auckland and the Tauranga Shows.
