An October update

In this update:

  • Wellington exhibitions
  • Regional exhibitions
  • My Open Studios
  • Events before Christmas

Hello all,
I hope by now, you’re all fully vaccinated and have survived the latest lockdowns and levels without too much stress. Our normal lifestyle has probably changed forever, but we need to make the most of what
we’ve got. I am very grateful to the galleries that are still supporting us (potters, artists…) the best they can. Please support them too!

In my pottery world, nothing much has happened for the past 3 months, but that’s all set to change. Even though a number of exhibitions and events have unfortunately been cancelled and or postponed, there’s plenty on now in the rush up till the end of the year. Let’s hope we don’t have another lockdown!

Three exhibitions out of town that I have submitted work for:

CeramicsNZ 60th National Jubilee Exhibition,
Otago Art Society, Dunedin Railway Station
23 October- 20 November

Taranaki National Art Awards
Sandfords Event Centre, Opunake
30 October-6 November

Open Ceramic Awards
The Quarry Arts Centre, Whangarei
26 Nov- 18 December

If you happen to be in those regions, do pop in to have a look!

Closer to home – exhibitions in Wellington

The Gear Homestead Woolshed Potters’ 40th anniversary exhibition
“Freedom”
is currently on at the Bottle Creek Gallery at Pataka Art+Museum, Porirua and operating under level 2 guidelines. Selected by Jennifer Turnbull from Otaki, who is also guest exhibitor.
24 Sept- 30 October

The Mitchell Studios is doing a great job supporting local by having an exhibition featuring 40 Wellington artists, while some of
the profits will go towards supporting Women’s Refuge.
Welington Suburban,
Mitchell Studios, 15 Ganges Rd, Khandallah
12 October-5 November

From my studio

I had a couple of disastrous firings during lockdown, but still managed to accumulate many more pots, and with another firing coming up soon, my little gallery will be overflowing again, so I’m having two Open Studio sales:
Sat 16 –Sun 17 October, and
Sat 27- Sun 28 November,
11am- 5pm
35 Huntleigh Park Way, Ngaio,
Wellington

These will go ahead at Level 2 or below. Please scan in. I have hand sanitiser available, and there will be no crowds! (I should be so
lucky….) Eftpos if vodafone is willing…This is the best opportunity to see the whole range of work that I make. Come for a browse and a chat, there’s
no hard sell!

Accessibility: my house is up a number of steps. There is a cable car available however this will also involve a couple of stairs.

Unfortunately, as I don’t live on the Kapiti Coast, I can’t take part in the Kapiti Arts Trail. However, many of my friends do, and you can visit their studios on the 6/7 and 13/14 November.

Events before Christmas

My life will be a little hectic for the 5 weekends before Christmas!

Cross Hills Garden Country Fair
339 Rangiwahia Rd, Rd 54, Kimbolton
Saturday 20 th November, 9am- 4pm. This is a lovely fair set in the middle of a large rhododendron garden. Lots of artisan foods on sale as well as craft stalls.

St Theresa School Art Exhibition
James Street, Plimmerton
Friday 26- Saturday 27 November. A school fundraiser.

Thorndon Fair
Sunday 5 December, 10am-3pm.
Crowded and iconic. My stall is in front of the Shepherd’s Arms, where the Morris Dancers have their cuppa tea between each round….

Woolshed Potters Cash and Carry
Two weekends: 4/5 and 11/12 December, 10am- 5pm. Work by more than a dozen Woolshed members. A lot of variety, from teeny cheap items to larger pots.

Wellington Plant Fair, Wellington High School
Saturday 18 December, 11am- 3pm. Emphasis on items to do with plants…I will most likely have potted succulents, planters and some pots/sculptures suitable for the garden.

Phew! And after this we will have a well-earned Christmas break and do it all again next year!!
Cheers!

Aimée
